Car lotAre you thinking about purchasing a new Mustang? Perhaps you have your heart set on a vehicle from the 1930's. No matter the car you choose, consider how much auto insurance will cost for it before you buy.

Forbes pulled together a list of the most expensive vehicles to insure for this year. There's no doubt each of these is a nice vehicle, but, is it right for you?

What Are the Most Expensive Vehicles to Get Auto Insurance For?

To get this list, Forbes looked at 2,800 vehicle models across all states. They used a variety of factors to pull the info together. Here's a look at what you'll spend the most on if you decide to buy one of these vehicles.

#1: Mercedes AMG S65 Convertible

Any Mercedes lover will find this particular model has much to offer. It is one of the most expensive vehicles to insure because of the car's value, and the tendency for drivers to step on the gas. Estimates differ, but on average, this vehicle costs over $3,800 a year to insure. The vehicle costs $247,900.

#2: Dodge Viper GTS

Perhaps one of the coolest looking vehicles on the list, this Viper is pretty expensive when it comes to car insurance. Estimates average around $3,780 per year. This vehicle, depending on features, costs well over $108,000.

#3: Maserati Quattroporte GTS

The Maserati Quattroporte GTS is perhaps one of the most top-performing vehicles on the list, with several package options available. To insure this vehicle, expect to pay over $3,540 a year. Its value tops $145,000.

#4: Mercedes S550 Convertible

This vehicle looks impressive, with many fantastic features. But, as an S-Class Convertible, it has a rather high value. The vehicle costs $3,500 to insure each year. It's valued at $131,400.

#5: Mercedes AMG C43 Convertible

This particular vehicle is one that may be a bit more affordable out of pocket to buy. Its value is only about $60,000, but it is consistently more expensive to insure for usage history. Expect to pay over $3,400.

It's important to know that car insurance costs listed here are just averages – consumers pay based on their qualifications as well.

Nevertheless, finding affordable insurance is a goal no matter what vehicle you own. Getting a quote before you buy can help reduce the risks of sticker shock later.
